Richard Baxter is President of Mustang Prairie Energy where he bridges the financial and technical sides of the energy storage industry.
Richard is the author of the U.S. Department of Energy sponsored study series on Energy Storage Financing, including “Energy Storage Financing: A Roadmap for Accelerating Market Growth” [SAND2016-8109], and “Energy Storage Financing: Performance Impacts on Project Financing” [SAND2018-10110]. He provides the pricing survey for the US. DOE valuation tools, and through Enovation Partners, provided the cost survey and pricing methodology for the Lazard Levelized Cost of Storage (LCOS) Survey 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0. He is also the author of the book, “Energy Storage: A Nontechnical Guide”.
Richard has been active in the energy storage industry for 18 years, holding a variety of positions across the value chain, including Director of Product Strategy for Premium Power, an investment banker and equity analyst with Ardour Capital, strategy consultant for Charles River Associates, and an economist with Standard & Poor’s DRI.
He is currently the Chairman of the Board of Directors for NovoCarbon (TSX-V: GLK), a publicly traded specialty materials firm, and Executive Director of the Advancing Contracting in Energy Storage (ACES) Working Group. Previously, he has served on the Board of Directors of the Energy Storage Association, and the Charitable Foundation of the Energy Bar Association. Richard holds a BS in Materials Engineering from Virginia Tech, and an MS in Energy Policy from the University of Pennsylvania.
