Hideki Fujiwara is currently the President of Carbon Neutral Resources Laboratory which is a private company. He was the the Director at Nippon Paper Unitec Co Ltd since 2009 which is a group company of Nippon Paper Industries Co. Ltd. which he retired in June 2013. Concurrently as a Visiting Professor, he served to The University of Tokyo Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Scienceand in 2011 and to The Asian Institute of Technology in 2013 by support of the Japanese Government to AIT. Prior to the two roles, he had been the Managing Director at Nippon Paper-Pak Co Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Nippon Paper and manufactures paper liquid packages from 2007 to 2009. Prior to the position he had been the Director and General Manager for R&D at Nippon Paper Industries Co Ltd from 2005 to 2007 and led 200 researchers as the head of the research team.
He started his professional career as a paper & pulp business expert at Jujo Paper Co Ltd (former entity of Nippon Paper before its merger with 3 competitors in 2003) just after he received his Master’s Degree in Applied Chemistry at Keio University in 1975. He studied paper science as a visiting scientist at Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, MI, USA from 1985 to 1986. He received his PhD degree from Keio University. His areas of expertise include research and development on the pulp and paper manufacturing with the strength in coating technology.
He is involved in some paper industry associations including TAPPI (Technical Association for Pulp and Paper Industry, USA) as a TAPPI fellow. He is only one active TAPPI fellow from Asia, now. He has won several prizes in the area of Pulp, Paper and Printing. He received TAPPI Coating Division Technical Award and Charles W. Engelhard Medallion and Honorarium in 2005 and he is first and only one winner from Asia. He was the Ambassador from Asia and currently he is the Senior Advisor to the Marcus Wallenberg Prize's Selection Committee, Sweden.
